October was an exciting month in the West with the inauguration of the first annual DVIDA Dancesport Championship. Hosted and organized by Dance Vision and DVIDA Founder, Wayne Eng, the Championship, open only to members of the DVIDA organization was held at the fabulous Green Valley Ranch Resort & Spa. The truly incredible venue, with fabulous restaurants, bars, casino and world class spa, gym and pool, was the perfect compliment to four days of dance training and lectures for both students and professionals and competition in the DVIDA syllabus.
The concept of DVIDA was to form a new society with dance and business support available to members in the Independent arm of our industry. A member of the National Dance Council of America , DVIDA membership has grown since its inception 5 years ago to the point where the dream of a national championship became a reality. 26 Studios from across North America (including 3 from Canada) were treated to live lectures by popular instructors Ron & Karla Montez, Jim & Jenell Maranto, Victor Veyrasset and Donald Johnson as well as Edward Simon and DVIDA National Examiner Marianne Nicole, business seminars for studio owners and managers conducted by training gurus David Elkin, John DePalma and The Ballroom Dance Teachers College founder Diane Jarmolow, and exciting Pro/Am competitions in all Styles from Newcomer through Gold.
The festivities concluded on Saturday evening with a beautiful banquet dinner, a game show hosted by Diane Jarmolow to test our knowledge of the industry, Professional One Dance Competitions with the Future Stars of America, and a Professional show by United States Rhythm Champions Tony Dovolani & Elena Grinenko of "Dancing With the Stars"
A perfect weekend and a perfect launch for the DVIDA National Championships. For further information about the DVIDA organization, visit us online at prodvida.com.
